IPL 2024 auction: “Mitchell Starc does not deserve more salary than Jasprit Bumrah” – blunt comment by Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has given a bold opinion on the IPL 2024 auction and believes that there should be a separate pool for the purchase of foreign players. Chopra stated that it is the Indian Premier League and Mitchell Starc does not deserve more money than Jasprit Bumrah.

The IPL 2024 mini auction was a historic day for Australian players as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins ended up being the top two buys of the auction. Kolkata Knight Riders bought Starc at one end for INR 24.75 crore, and Pat Cummins went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crore.

Aakash Chopra’s bold comment on IPL 2024 auction

While talking to Jio Cinema, Aakash Chopra said, “There should be a different purse for foreign players, it is the first INDIAN league. Starc does not deserve more salary than Bumrah.”

Coming back to the 2024 Indian Premier League auction, a total of 333 players were auctioned, of which 72 players were sold and spent. Apart from Cummins and Starc, Travis Head, who was Australia’s hero in the semi-final and final of the ODI World Cup 2023, went to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Apart from the Australian players, CSK picked up Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, who performed prominently for New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023 for INR 1.80 crore and INR 14 crore respectively.

Once the IPL 2024 auction is concluded, the trade window will open again on December 20 and players can be traded 30 days before the start of the Indian Premier League.

The Indian Premier League 2024 will take place in March, April and May, and there are reports that the tournament could be moved out of India due to the upcoming Loksabha elections in the country. However, the 2019 IPL was held in India despite the parliamentary elections.

IPL 2024 will also be very special for players like Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and MS Dhoni. On the one hand, Hardik has achieved a return home and will lead the five-time champions. Rohit will play as a player after a long gap of 11 years.

Shubman Gill will lead the Gujarat Titans, which will be his first experience as captain in his cricket career. Gill has been in brilliant form in the year 2023 and is the leading run scorer in the ODI format, Gill has scored hundreds in all three formats and is also one of the most emerging players in the Indian team.

At last, IPL 2024 may be the last time fans see MS Dhoni playing on the cricket field. MSD, who retired from international cricket in the year 2020, was also expected to bid farewell to the IPL in the year 2023. However, the former Indian captain assured fans of his presence in the IPL 2024 also after the final of the 16th edition of the cash rich league against Gujarat Titans.

The Indian Premier League is a platform where young players get a chance to showcase their talent and become big names in the future. The same can be expected from IPL 17 as well.
