Match Fixing in IPL 2024

To prevent corrupt activities from taking place in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024). The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been very vigilant. ACU managers have been attentive to adverse elements during the tournament.

The ACU has reportedly managed to evict suspected bookmakers from two venues so far in IPL 2024. On both occasions, Rajasthan Royals were involved when ACU officials nabbed the suspected bookies in Mumbai and Jaipur .

The first case took place on March 28 when the Rajasthan Royals faced the Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The second took place on April 1 when Rajasthan Royals played Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

In Jaipur, ACU officials captured two individuals and handed them over to the local box. Also in Mumbai, officials handed over individuals to the police. While an FIR was lodged against both the persons in Jaipur, the case in Mumbai ended up being a possible case of mistaken identity.

According to a report by The Hindu, Marine Drive police officers did not find anything strange on the individuals’ electronic devices.

How betting houses operate:

Bookmakers attend games at the stadium to take advantage of the eight to fifteen second gap between the real-time action and the live or streaming broadcast. A small period can make a big difference. As expected, the ACU has been very vigilant in keeping a close eye on any suspicious individuals in the IPL.

In the past, the IPL has been linked with several allegations of match-fixing and the BCCI is trying its best to stay away from any controversy. The media outlet further quoted a BCCI official as saying that the ACU, with the support of the BCCI machinery, is “doing its best to keep corrupt elements away from the IPL.”

Talking about IPL 2024, it has almost reached the halfway point. Currently, Rajasthan Royals are on top of the points table with 6 wins in seven games, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the top four.
