KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy revealed that the first win of IPL 2026 for the Knight Riders caused a flurry of emotions in the dressing room. He claimed that such scenes were not seen even after winning the title in IPL 2024.
Kolkata Knight Riders finally broke the shackles in this IPL 2026 season, winning their first games after going winless for over six games in the competition. They defeated Rajasthan Royals, one of the best teams in the competition.
Kolkata earned their first points in the competition and moved up one place to ninth place, while Mumbai Indians fell to tenth. However, more than a victory, this victory would boost the confidence that the Knights were surely losing at one point.
I could see a lot of tears today, which we didn’t even see when we won IPL 2024,” Varun Chakravarthy revealed.
Kolkata Knight Riders star spinner Varun Chakravarthy revealed how the entire dressing room was in tears after the franchise finally managed to break its winless streak in the season. KKR clinched a narrow victory by a margin of four wickets.
“Very, very significant (the victory), I can tell you that today I could see a lot of tears, which we didn’t even see when we won IPL 2024,” Varun Chakravarthy said during the post-match press conference (via iplt20.com)
Varun Chakravarthy added: “We haven’t won and there is a lot of external noise that comes and affects the players. But finally today we came out better. We won the match. Yes, there are many aspects to improve, for sure. Because we started this tournament with many, like many injuries, and that paralyzed us even before the tournament started.”
“I don’t want to make a radical statement and all that,” Varun Chakravarthy keeps his enthusiasm in check.
The mystery KKR spinner opined that although he bagged 3 wickets, giving away just 14 runs, he is not very enthusiastic about his good performance. He doesn’t want to get carried away on his return, and the conditions observed play a big role in a spinner’s success.
“Look, just because I have taken three wickets today, I don’t want to make a radical statement and all that. That’s the nature of the game. Next match, if the wicket has nothing, that will happen to all the spinners,” Varun Chakravarthy said about his performance.
As you can see, at first all the spinners traveled. So, that’s how it is. Once the pitches start to slow down, that’s how we start to get into the game and start to be more effective. So, it’s the nature of the game and we can’t change it. So I don’t think much about it,” Varun Chakaravarthy added.
Do Kolkata Knight Riders have any chance of qualifying for IPL 2026?
KKR has won one match and now has three points after 7 matches. They have lost five games and, with 7 more games remaining in this edition of the competition, they would have to extend their winning streak to at least the next six games.
Winning at least six of their next seven matches can help KKR secure a spot in the top four, as 15 points are often considered a ranking point total; However, they would also have to depend on other teams.
Teams like Punjab Kings and RCB have shown such dominance that they apparently won’t lose many games, making things difficult for rivals like KKR. However, statistically, it has a chance of qualifying, although not many if you look at it from a rational point of view.
