Shreyas Iyer and Anshul Kamboj

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer couldn’t make the kind of impact he would have wanted in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 16-over competition between the teams is that it will take place at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta.

Shreyas Iyer, who came to bat at number 4, was defeated by the brilliance of Mumbai Indians pacer Anshul Kamboj. The fast bowler castled the batsman around the stumps and left the crowd at Eden Gardens stunned when their captain died.

On the first ball of the fifth over, Anshul Kamboj bowled a nibbling delivery. Shreyas Iyer crossed to access the leg side. It was a short pitch that went in. The batsman played the line but was undone by the movement of the ball.

Shreyas Iyer’s leg stump was visible and the ball went to kiss the outside half of the stump and headed towards the boundary. It was a Steve Smith-like dismissal as the Kolkata Knight Riders batsman began the long walk back to the pavilion.

Here is the video:

Shreyas Iyer, who has been going through a rough patch, once again failed to score big for Kolkata Knight Riders. The middle order batsman scored 7 runs off 10 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 70 and managed just one for four in his innings at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

After Shreyas Iyer got out, Venkatesh Iyer played a decent hand for his team. The left-hander played some glorious shots in his innings and made sure to keep the scoring rate high after his team lost two early wickets at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Venkatesh Iyer scored 42 runs off 21 balls and batted with a strike rate of 200. He also hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. He looked set for another fifty but Piyush Chawla removed him as Kolkata Knight Riders lost their fourth wicket for 77 runs. The onus will now fall on Andre Rusell to lead his team to a grand total.

We’re doing well, it’s been an interesting year: Mitchell Starc on KKR’s season

Mitchell Starc, before the match, talked about Kolkata Knight Riders’ season in IPL 2024. He thinks they are well placed in the league and talked about finishing in the top 2 of the season. He stated:

“We’re doing well, it’s been an interesting year. We’ve had a run at home and then away games, it’s good to be back home now. It’s important to have that second chance, you have that big break before the final, we certainly talked about it the other day in training so that we could finish in the top 2.

“You certainly need a bit of luck with the ball, especially with the impact player rule and the size of the wickets. There has been some fantastic batting, but with the ball, it could be a little better,” he concluded.
