Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) played an away match against Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) on Monday, May 6 at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. .
Batting first in the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished their innings with a total of 173/8 on the board, with Travis Head (48) and Pat Cummins (35) being the first two to get runs. Nitish Reddy, Marco Jansen and Shahbaz Ahmed also contributed crucial runs in the innings.
Defending the target, SRH got off to a great start by dismissing Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir in 4.1 overs. However, after that, nothing went in their favor as Suryakumar Yadav scored a fantastic century and led Mumbai Indians to a 7-wicket victory.
Speaking after the match, Pat Cummins said that they were missing a few runs in the match and should have scored more. Pat Cummins said:
“There are probably a couple missing, at Wankhede you want as many as you can. You always feel like you’re in, the wicket had a bit, so we were definitely in the game.”
Pat Cummins felt that things did not work out for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the match and praised Suryakumar Yadav for his batting brilliance. Pat Cummins said:
“I think Sanvir helped us get to 170 instead of 150. Ideally we would have a bowler. It’s T20 cricket and it doesn’t always work. SKY played very well. We like to play at home, Wait and see what awaits us. Hopefully, some more fireworks.”
SRH vs MI Previous Meeting Result
In their first clash in the Indian Premier League 2024, SRH and MI hosted a run fest on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. After a normal start to IPL 2024 with over 3200 totals in 14 innings, with a maximum of 208, SRH decided to raise the bar and showed what IPL 2024 is all about – a bowlers’ nightmare.
Travis Head (62), Abhishek Sharma (63), Aiden Markram (42) and Heinrich Klaasen (80) decided to go all out and after a stupendous batting show, took SRH to 277 for 3. For MI, Hardik Pandya Piyush Chawla and Gerald Coetzee were among the wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah (0/36) was the most economical.
A total that was virtually impossible to chase was made to look chaseable when Mumbai Indians came into bat. The five-time champions came into the middle of the game with great running pace and the batsmen played an attacking style of cricket.
However, SRH’s bowlers made sure not to let their batsmen’s performance go in vain and delayed the game to restrict Mumbai to 246/5 and claim a 31-run win. For SRH, Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat picked up two wickets each, while Shahbaz Ahmed got one wicket. In the high scoring match, young SRH batsman Abhishek Sharma bagged the Player of the Match award for his heroic 23-ball 63.
