Australia captain Pat Cummins spoke about the turning point of the second Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He believes Babar Azam’s wicket changed the game in his favor on Day 4.
Pakistan set a target of 316 runs to chase in the second game of the Test series in Australia. The visitors did not start their innings well as they lost the first two games early and were trailing 49/2.
However, captain Shan Masood (60) and Babar Azam played superbly well to bring the team back into the game. They put Australia under pressure and made them think a lot about their partnership.
Babar Azam in particular looked good to look at and played some eye-catching shots. The way he was batting, it looked like he would finish with a big score and take his team home. But that wasn’t the case as Josh Hazlewood’s brilliance destroyed him.
Josh Hazlewood produced a peach to remove Babar Azam as the ball came in sharply. He went between bat and pad to rattle the stumps. The former Pakistan captain finished with 41 runs and with his wicket Australia were really back in the game.
Pat Cummins believes Babar Azam’s wicket was a great moment in the game. He praised Josh Hazlewood for the delivery he made and said:
“That (Babar Azam’s wicket) was huge. For most of the day, he (Josh Hazlewood) was caught in the wind, but, he just took it, that was huge and I think he went up another gear. He showed the class of him. I think he has gotten Babar’s wicket several times, but I think that is the top of the list.” Pat Cummins told reporters
PAK vs AUS: I love playing here. Boxing Day – Biggest Test – Pat Cummins after win against Pakistan
Pat Cummins was the main architect of Australia’s victory in the second test. The fast bowler took five-wicket hauls in both the innings and helped his team win the match. He was also awarded the Man of the Match award for his heroics.
Pat Cummins spoke about the victory and stated that he enjoyed playing before the game. He admitted that his goal was to set a target of more than 300. He explained:
“I love playing here. Boxing Day: The biggest Test match on the calendar. I love the preparation around Christmas. The last few years, the wickets have been nice. You have a few options here, there is a bit of sewing in recent years. I like a little bounce up and down. You can throw some short balls. The run-up is always very nice here.
“A little nervous (when Pakistan needed less than 100 to win), they felt good, they were batting quite well, happy with Rizwan’s wicket. Anything over 300 was the goal, I thought we had enough to play with, a little tight.”
Pat Cummins also completed 250 wickets in Tests. He will next be seen in action when Australia takes on Pakistan in the final match. The match will take place from January 3 in Sydney.
