CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s terrible form continues in this edition of TATA IPL 2026. The CSK captain was once dismissed early, and that too at their Chepauk stadium. CSK fans might be frustrated by the captain’s serious lack of form.
Chennai Super Kings finally broke their losing curse after winning their first game in TATA IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals in their last game. Opener Sanju Samson had scored a century, the fourth and first of his IPL career for the Super Kings.
However, the biggest concern that remains for the Super Kings is that their captain is not fully fit. The Chennai team batted surprisingly after that first game, but Gaikwad averaged 14 going into his fifth game of the season.
Ruturaj Gaikwad continues his poor performance in IPL 2026 with another low score in Chepauk
Chennai Super Kings are going through one of their toughest phases in the IPL. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who opened alongside Sanju Samson, his captain, has failed to show promise at the top. He has been widely criticized for his poor batting form along with his cluelessness in captaincy.
Having managed only 56 runs in the first four games, at an average of 14 and a terrible 102, Gaikwad was intent on bouncing back, but luck did not favor him. In the second over of the powerplay, after being asked to bat first, Gaikwad looked to sweep Anukul Roy towards the deep mid-wicket boundary.
The ball did not achieve the desired elevation and therefore did not reach its destination. He was caught by Rovman Powell, one of the safest pair of hands in the KKR XI. Ruturaj Gaikwad walked away with a score of 7.

Ayush Mhatre gave CSK a spectacular start in the powerplay
After the dismissal of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai were unstoppable with the arrival of the in-form Ayush Mhatre, who gave CSK the best possible start under the circumstances. Chennai already started well with Sanju Samson taking 15 runs in the first over.
However, their dreams of a good starting position were shattered once again with the dismissal of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The 20-year-old, who has also been in great form for CSK this season, did not hold back against the likes of Cameron Green and Vaibhav Arora.
He hit the ball to all parts of the field, making 20 runs in the second over of Green’s powerplay. He didn’t stop there and attacked Vaibhav Arora with a series of boundaries, taking CSK’s score to a massive 72 in the powerplay.
Vaibhav Arora had the last laugh against the Mhatre massacre
After the carnage of young Mhatre, who has been having a spectacular season with the Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders’ most successful bowler had to respond with a firm reply. Once again he threw a bumper to take him by surprise.
Their hard work paid off as Ayush Mhatre played two consecutive dot balls and looked to clear the fence on another occasion in the final ball of the powerplay. However, Vaibhav had set up the CSK batsman as he bowled a bouncer to bring the big leg-side boundary into play. Ramandeep Singh completed another safe catch in the deep, as CSK’s second batsman departed in the same manner.
