Rishabh Pant's Dramatic Dismissal

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant was part of a dramatic dismissal in the 26th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket. Stadium, Lucknow on Friday, April 12.

Rishabh Pant has been doing a good job with the bat in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He started slowly on his return to competitive cricket, as he scored only 18 and 28 runs in the first two games.

However, he improved his performance by smashing consecutive half-centuries in the match against Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Although he failed in the match against Mumbai Indians, Pant made sure to bounce back strongly and led his team to victory by playing a good knock against Lucknow Super Giants.

Rishabh Pant showed an excellent batting performance during the run chase and was involved in a 77-run partnership with Jake Fraser-McGurk that completely changed the game in favor of Delhi Capitals.

The wicketkeeper-batsman could be considered unlucky as he was not unbeaten till the end and also did not reach his half-century. Pant scored 41 runs off 24 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed by star player Ravi Bishnoi in the third ball of the 16th over.

Rishabh Pant was perplexed but his dismissal was not very normal. Ravi Bishnoi bowled a full toss and Pant danced down the track to reach the boundary. However, he lost form and failed to connect with the ball. The DC captain’s bat also slipped out of his hand in the process and the bat hit LSG’s gloveman KL Rahul who was not distracted and inflicted an easy hit that sent the batsman packing.

Rishabh Pant becomes fastest Indian to reach 3000 runs in Indian Premier League history

With his knock against Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant also created history by becoming the fastest Indian in terms of balls faced to score 3000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He only needed 2028 balls to achieve the feat and broke Yusuf Pathan’s record. In terms of innings, he is the third fastest to reach the milestone along with Suresh Raina.

2028 – Rishabh Pants*

After the match, former Indian national cricket team all-rounder Irfan Pathan used his official X-handle to praise Rishabh Pant for delivering consistent performances for Delhi Capitals. He stated:

“RishaPant’s consistency since his return has been reassuring. Delhi’s two spinners gave 46 runs in 8, while Lucknow’s lone spinner gave almost the same number of runs in 3 overs. Big difference in the game. #DCvsLSG” .
