Former Australian opening batsman Aaron Finch recently picked a captain who impressed him during the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Aaron Finch snubbed his former Australian teammate Pat Cummins by choosing the best captain of the ongoing tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are in fifth and sixth place with 10 points each. Gujarat Titans (GT) are at 7th place with 8 points followed by Punjab Kings (PBKS) with 6 points. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are at the bottom two spots with six points each.

Aaron Finch picks Sanju Samson as best captain in IPL 2024

In a video shared by ESPNCricinfo on X (formerly known as Twitter), Aaron Finch was asked to pick just one IPL captain this season. Finch chose Sanju Samson instead of captains like Pat Cummins, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and others.

Rajasthan Royals won every match in the 2024 IPL except their loss against the Gujarat Titans. They beat the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants in their recent match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. The team has almost secured qualification for the playoffs with 16 points on its account.

Sanju Samson has been in excellent form for RR in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The right-handed batsman scored 385 runs in nine innings at an impressive average of 77.00 and an excellent strike rate of 161. He scored an unbeaten 71 for 33 in his recent match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Sanju Samson has been playing some really mature innings – Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch praised Sanju Samson for his exceptional performances in the ongoing IPL. Finch credited Samson for Rajasthan Royals’ clinical performance in the tournament.

“He has been playing really mature innings and that is what is required for the team. I think in times of T20 cricket, the ego of the batsman can get in the way of what the team needs at times, but he has been playing each and every situations exactly as they need to be done,” Finch had said after the MI match on Star Sports.

“I think he’s leading the team incredibly well, you can see how calm Rajasthan Royals are when they’re under pressure. And I think the only game they lost was when they had that collapse against GT right at the end of the game, so who have been very clinical throughout this IPL and a lot of credit has to go to Sanju for that,” Finch concluded.

The RR captain has been selected for the 15-member India squad for the T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the preliminary squad on April 30. Samson earned the spot over competitors like KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik and Jitesh Sharma with consistent performances.
