Tom Latham openly insults Rohit Sharma and team India after series win in Pune

New Zealand captain Tom Latham recently revealed the reason behind securing the first Test series on Indian soil. Tom Latham attributed the team’s historic Test series win in India to their aggressive approach from the start and also added that they were on the right side of a couple of pitches.

The Black Caps cruised to a 113-run victory in the second Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, October 26. They took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match series. It is worth mentioning that it was New Zealand’s first victory in a Test series on Indian soil.

We have fired a shot against India – Tom Latham

Speaking after the match, Tom Latham said that they dominated India with their aggressive style of play. Latham said his players performed well over the past few days and added that it was very nice to see.

“We’ve played a style where we’ve taken shots at India and we’ve also been on the right side of a couple of pitches, that’s been really important. The players have put in the work over the last few days which has been really nice to see,” Latham told the media after New Zealand’s victory in the second Test on Saturday.

Latham highlighted how crucial winning the toss was to their success in the series, adding that it influenced the outcome. He added that winning the toss in the second Test was the first time since he came to India.

“We’ve been on the right side of a couple of pitches. I think (in the second Test) it was the first toss I won or participated in, since I’ve been here and that played a big part, especially in Bengaluru,” Latham said.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 259 runs and bowled out India for just 156 in the first innings, taking a lead of 103 runs. They scored 255 runs in their second innings before restricting India to 245 runs. Mitchell Santner took 13 wickets in two innings of the second Test match.

Tom Latham said they had confidence in Mitchell Santner’s ability, adding that he made them proud of his contributions over the past few games. Latham said Santner has been with the Chennai Super Kings for a long time.

“Mitch has been at Chennai (Super Kings) for a long time, (he is) someone who has been in our group for a long time, he has played a reasonable amount of Test cricket and we know how good he is,” Latham said.

“We know what he can produce and for him to come here and play like he has done in recent days, the group is very proud of him,” he added.
