Vaibhav Sooryavanshi about to break 2 iconic records in IPL 2026

Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is about to create one, two new records in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026). One of two possible records the 15-year-old can achieve tonight, when Rajasthan Royals take on Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

According to statistics, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi only needs a 6 to complete 100 sixes in his Twenty20 career. If he can do this, he will be the first teenager in cricket history to complete a 6 hundred in this particular format.

Like the previous IPL season, the young opener has been in dominant form in the current season as well. The Bihar-born has scored 400 runs in 9 matches at an average of 44.44 and an outstanding strike rate of 238.09, including one century and two fifties, with a best score of 103.

So far, Sooryavanshi has appeared in 27 T20 innings, scoring a total of 1101 runs, backed by 99 maximums. It only took one big hit to complete the century. Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who smashed 90 sixes, needed 52 innings, while the Indian opener could reach the record in just 28 innings.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can also beat Abhishek Sharma’s record

The Rajasthan Royals prodigy can claim another record, which now belongs to Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma. As of now, Abhishek Sharma holds the record of scoring the most 6 in a single season of the Indian Premier League. In 2024, the SRH batsman recorded 42 sixes, which is the most sixes a batsman has hit so far in the history of the league.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will have to hit just 6 sixes to surpass Abhishek’s record. In this edition, the left-hander has hit 34 fours and 37 sixes. The most number of sixes he smashed was when he registered a century against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur on 25 April. In 103 innings off 37 balls, he scored five 4s and 12 6s.

KL Rahul praised Royals batsman before the match

Tonight, Rajasthan Royals will take on Delhi Capitals. The Capitals, who are not having a great season so far, must take advanced precautionary measures to prevent the dangerous hitter from causing another big hit. Before the match, DC opener KL Rahul said that what the 15-year-old cricketer has achieved, he could only dream of at that age.

“It’s phenomenal what the new age cricketers are doing. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken world cricket by storm. Two centuries at the age of 15 is something I never even dreamed of doing. Ayush Mhatre has also done well, helping CSK get quick runs. The amount of talent emerging in India is terrifying, especially in T20 cricket. These fearless prodigies are changing the way the T20S is played,” KL Rahul said on JioStar.
