15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already started breaking records in the IPL as he recently completed 500 runs in the IPL and achieved a new feat, surpassing the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Virender Sehwag.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the youngster who has been impressive throughout 2025 and 2026, coming into this IPL with the best form of the previous edition, has been loved by everyone. The left-hander has scored hundreds in all formats for India against all the big rivals in U19 cricket.
Sooryavanshi’s IPL form has also been unmatched, considering his young age. Although he is only 15 years old, he has already scored over 250 runs and is playing his seventh match of the season. He has made great contributions in this tournament and has scored two half-centuries at over 250.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becomes fastest to 500 runs in IPL history
The youngster who gained recognition after being signed by former Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid for INR 1.10 crore, became their best player in the last two seasons.
Batting in the seventh game of the season, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored two boundaries in the first four balls he faced against Prince Yadav. He seemed poised and fit. With those two boundaries, Sooryavanshi needed just 227 balls to surpass the 500-run mark in the IPL.
Sooryavanshi became the fastest in IPL history to do so, surpassing the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Priyansh Arya, Naman Dhir and legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag.

The young batsman has been hitting at a strike rate of over 250 overall; However, even if he has struggled to start, like in the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, his strike rate has been within the highs of 160-170.
The left-hander’s struggle against the LSG bowlers was something very new to be seen in IPL 2026. After scoring eight runs off the bowling of Prince Yadva, he struggled against Mohsin Khan. Khan did not let him free his arms for the first five balls and then he was dismissed on the last ball of the over.
Sooryavanshi was finally restless after not scoring any in the last 8 balls; He came out and tried to throw the ball only to have it fly, ending in a very good catch by Digvesh Rathi.
Digvesh Rathi’s impressive career effort to dismiss Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Mohsin Khan had put immense pressure on the youngster, who is still very inexperienced to deal with the pent-up pressure of boundaries that don’t come easily in the powerplay.
Sooryavanshi might have made it, but it wouldn’t have ended in dismissal if it hadn’t been for the brilliance of Digvesh Rathi. The Delhi player ran backwards while keeping his eyes on the ball under the lights.
He finished the catch with a good grip, without taking anything out. He had a lot of pressure on his shoulders after denying Nicholas Pooran the chance to catch the ball; therefore, losing it would have been a huge burden on him throughout the game.
