"I can’t drop quality hitters": Riyan Parag criticizes RR’s fielding after loss against SRH in IPL 2026

In the 36th match, it was another high-scoring game between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), as the Orange Army chased down a total of 229 to defeat the Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and etch their names in the fourth most successful run chase in IPL history. They sealed a 5-wicket victory.

SRH won the toss and elected to play first, while Pat Cummins returned to the side and led the team to their fourth consecutive victory. He missed half the season and will be a happy captain after this emphatic victory over the Royals. Fans flocked to this place in large numbers.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets a brilliant ton

After being invited to bat first, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became enraged and batted from the first ball. He took care of Praful Hinge, who picked up his wicket in their last match, dismissing him for a duck, but in this game, it was all Vaibhav as he scored 25 runs in the first over of the innings.

RR lost the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal early, and Sooryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel put up a 112-run partnership between them, helping RR reach a good total. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored his second century of the TATA IPL, and first this season, scoring 100 off 36 balls and smashing 12 sixes in the 103-run innings.

Riyan Parag again had a tough time as the RR captain couldn’t take on the bowlers. Riyan Parag, even though the stage was set, was fired cheaply. After that, South African batsman Donovan Ferreira played 33 16-ball innings, and Shimron Hetmyer scored 11 runs, helping the Royals score 228/6 in their 20 overs.

Abhishek and Kishan set the stage for the foot chase

Coming out to chase Travis Head, he went early when Jofra Archer struck in the first over of the match. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan then put together a 132-run partnership for the second wicket; Both batsmen scored fifties off 24 balls respectively. Abhishek scored 57 runs and Kishan scored 74 in the match.

Then, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy’s 29 and 36 runs respectively sealed the match for the Orange Army as Salil Arora hit a six to end the game with 9 balls to spare and helped SRH win the game.

Left too many catches: Riyan Parag

Riyan Parag was upset with Ravindra Jadeja’s catch, which cost them the game. He also praised his players, especially Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger, during the post-match presentation.

Riyan Parag said: “We lost too many catches. Quality players like Abhishek cannot drop quality batsmen. We could have been better in the field. We have to be clinical. Fielding plays a big role in that. We have a rest day. Freshen up mentally and come back the next day. We came out 10-15 [runs] on the table. To be honest, they played well on the 18th and 20th.

“They ran their Yorkers. I would have liked another 15 runs.” [On Bishnoi’s late introduction] There were two lefties, I thought Don and I had a better chance of getting ground. Wicket was not spin friendly, I only had to manage four overs. It didn’t really go as planned. Different places, different games, different ways of approaching it. I don’t know how Chandigarh will go,” concluded Riyan Parag.
