Pakistan Cricket legend Javed Miandad expressed concern over the unstable state of cricket governance in the country. Javed Miandad stated that the frequent changes and appointments within the PCB management have negatively affected the confidence of the players.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has made changes to its leadership after a disappointing performance in the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup. Babar Azam resigned from captaincy in all three formats. Shaheen Afridi and Shan Masood were named Test and T20I captains.
Mohammad Hafeez and Wahab Riaz have taken up important roles in Pakistan cricket. Hafeez became Director of Cricket and took over as Chief Selector of the men’s team. However, the Men in Green have encountered challenges in achieving the desired results.

Don’t think about such frequent appointments and changes anywhere – Javed Miandad
Speaking to the media during the launch of the Sindh Premier League, Javed Miandad expressed his dissatisfaction with the structure of Pakistan cricket. Miandad commented that he had not witnessed cricket governance issues anywhere else in the world.
“I have not seen cricket governance anywhere in the world like what we see in Pakistan and this situation is really sad.” Miandad told the media.
“I don’t think anywhere such frequent appointments and changes are made in cricket and that just means we don’t have continuity in our cricket structure and more importantly the players don’t gain confidence.” he added.
The Pakistan team finished the 2023 World Cup in fifth place, achieving only four wins in nine group stage matches. The team has not reached the semi-finals of the ICC ODI World Cup since 2011, when they were defeated by eventual champions India.
Since last year we have had a very bad time – Javed Miandad
Javed Miandad expressed concern that Pakistan is lagging behind other teams due to the management approach of the national cricket board. Miandad attributed Pakistan’s struggles in cricket to decisions made by people who lacked knowledge of cricket.
“Since last year we have been going through a bad time in terms of our team’s performance and people who have no knowledge of cricket sit and make decisions that affect the entire structure of the country.” Miandad stated.
Zaka Ashraf recently resigned from his position as head of the PCB Management Committee. Ashraf, who replaced Najam Sethi, was appointed on July 6, 2023, and his tenure was subsequently extended by caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar in November.
Following his resignation, Mohsin Naqvi was appointed as the new president of the PCB on 22 January. The team’s next international engagement is a five-match T20I series in England in May, ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies. .
