Indian national cricket team bowling coach Morne Morkel has given a massive update on the fitness of pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

On Day 2 of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Jasprit Bumrah suffered a serious injury while bowling and the entire Indian camp seemed worried.

Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury in the 81st minute

Bumrah was bowling the 81st ball of the innings and after the third ball, he seemed to be in some sort of trouble. Travis Head sent a Bumrah delivery at 132.6 kmph to the boundary for four, and after that, the pacer came down.

The physio instantly came down to the middle to check the pacemaker when Bumrah was seen holding his adductor muscle, which was not a good sign.

There was a slight delay in the match as the physiotherapist provided treatment to the Indian pacer and after some time, Bumrah stood up and completed the over without facing any problem.

Jasprit Bumrah continued to bowl beyond the 81st over and made a breakthrough in the 85th over. On the last ball of the over, he castled Australian captain Pat Cummins with a peach and it was the hosts’ eighth wicket.

Meanwhile, Morne Morkel revealed after the end of the day’s play that the Indian spearhead was totally fine and only suffered cramps during the 81st over.

“First of all, Bumrah is fine and it was just cramps. Even after that [incident] He bowled and got us wickets. Like I said, Test cricket is a tough place, there is no place to hide,” India Bowling said in the post-day press conference in a video shared by One Cricket.

Like Head, this is how Pant bats – Morne Morkel

When asked about the Indian team’s bowling performance, Morkel said he expected a better performance on Day 1, and on Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah & Co. did well before Travis Head launched an attack.

“Yesterday (Friday), the lines and lengths could have been better, there was also some extra swing. I thought they did well today (Saturday) morning before Travis Head played his innings. It put the players under pressure , but that’s how he plays,” he said as quoted by Sportstar.

Team India did a poor job with the bat on Day 2 and after Virat Kohli was dismissed in the 15th over, there was a lot of pressure on the visitors.

However, Rishabh Pant, being the caliber of player that he is, fearlessly walked down the track and smashed Scott Boland for a fantastic boundary off the first ball he faced after Kohli’s wicket. The batsman batted in the same manner throughout his innings and displayed some sensationally outrageous shots.

Talking about Pant’s approach, Morne Morkel said the wicketkeeper-batsman is a naturally aggressive player and always looks to put pressure on the bowlers. He said:

“Like Head, this is the way Pant bats, that is his approach. He always puts players under pressure. Looking at the score, you don’t expect the type of shot he made from the first ball but that’s what it is.”
